In May 2010, we returned to the Hotel Valentine, Abdul return home. I felt very much at ease there, just like as if I were home. It is a very quiet place to stay, and very enjoyable due to good care and good management. Good rooms, simple, pretty cozy and pleasant. Excellent company and attention of Abdul and his collaborators. In short: Hotel Valentine is very accommodating. Therefore be recommended. What's more is ideally located 5 minutes from the Kasbah with a spectacular terrace for breakfast in the sun and enjoy the beautiful nights enjoying a nice dinner. Salads esquisitas, though, for my personal taste, better without fennel. Great kind that gives a great flavor. I've been to Hotel Valentine two years ago. I have returned because it is a terrific place where you are very comfortable and treated very well.
Morocco is characterized, among other things, as being a country with some prohibitions, like the prohibition of alcohol. To have a beer in Morocco sometimes becomes a very difficult task and when found it usually is quite expensive. After our arrival in Ait Ben Haddou we decided to relax and have a beer, but where? Well, low and behold, we found it at the Auberge La Goulade. You can stay at the Auberge for 8-10 € and also enjoy affordable but very peculiar French food. The restaurant is decorated in bright colors, not unfamiliar in Morocco. It is the perfect place to have a beer after a long day of sightseeing. Prices are steep however as a beer can cost you more than 2 €. This restaurant is easy to find as it is situated on the main road to Ait Ben Haddou. So now you know, if you are in the vicinity and you feel like having something "forbidden" the place to go is the Auberge La Goulade, at the foot of the Moroccan desert.
Within the new town of Ait Ben Haddou, there are plenty of places for dining, sleeping, and having breakfast. And, most are pretty cheap. La Maison D'hotes Panoramique is one of them. It's run by a man named Ebrahim and his family. There are several reasons to stay here. Firstly its excellent cuisine. You can taste typical dishes as seen in the photographs in the restaurant while enjoying a wonderful breakfast the next morning on the terrace. Secondly the views are truly spectacular. From the window of the room looks Fortress Ait Ben Haddou and from the terrace you can enjoy the sunrise and eat breakfast while you contemplate the valley, the fortress, the river and the High Atlas in the background. Thirdly, breakfast, dinner and accommodation with the best views around will only cost between 10 and 20 euros, depedning on the number of people per room.
Maktub means ¨the destination¨ in Arabic. This riad is a welcoming place, an old renovated house in the historic center of the city. Riad hasbasic, low prices from 20 euros per night, and in the summer you don´t spend more than 50 euros per night. There are 6 rooms, and down in the yard some chairs to enjoy when having a meal or resting. The rooms are a bit small, furnished in an oriental style, with wrought iron and basic colors. The place is family run, and you can have a dinner prepared which typically costs 12 euros per person for a couscous or tagine (the dishes cooked in a clay oven) with mint tea and a fruit dessert. It's in an alley, is very quiet, but a little hard to find. Maybe you can ask for them to pick you up from the airport.
