This rural-style restaurant in the old town of Alicante offers good service, quality, and quantity. This restaurant still holds onto countryside traditions and is located in a car-free area of Alicante. Once you go, you’ll want to go back. From September until March, the best thing to try is their house-cured cheese and the “arroz con costra.” It’s simply divine!
This was one of the coolest experiences. It isn’t your run-of-the-mill teahouse, but rather a small paradise where you can enjoy tea and Arab sweets while you relax and soak up the environment. It’s a small palace with decorative gardens where you can sit in a corner and be surrounded by nature. Totally recommended.
La Claudia has by far the best views of any restaurant in Altea, so if you’re looking for somewhere to celebrate a romantic evening, it’s an excellent choice (but make sure to call head and reserve a table out on the terrace). There is, of course, an interior dining room but the small and intimate terrace in the back overlooking the mountains, coast, and the glittering town of Alfaz del Pi is unbeatable.
As far as the food goes, it’s modern Spanish with a few international nods. My favorite dish was our appetizer: grilled octopus salad with bacon, green apple, arugula, and a ginger and cilantro-spiked mayonnaise. It was fresh and savory and the contrasting textures of the soft octopus and crispy bacon and apples was incredible. Then, I got the “arroz meloso” (think of it like a more liquid Spanish version of a risotto) with grilled duck breasts which was tasty if a tad bland and finally, the unbelievably decadent dessert: fine laminates of caramelized pineapple stuffed with generous portions of thick whipped cream, and topped with honey. After one bite, my wife and I both looked at each other with that wide-eyed “oh my God…this is good” face. They have a good but slightly over-priced wine list mainly featuring wines from Alicante and Catalonia.
All in all, I’d highly recommend a late lunch or dinner at La Claudia. The friendly service, tasty and creative food, and unbeatable views make for the perfect way to begin your trip to Costa Blanca.
In the old town of Benidorm in front of the Church of Jaime Apóstol, you’ll find the viewpoint which divides the Levante and Poniente beaches and this little bar which stands out for its fresh, high-quality ingredients. It’s frequented by locals and is a perfect place to keep in mind when you’re feeling hungry in Benidorm.
Actually, today there are two Katagorri in Alicante, on C / Portugar and on the Rambla. I can only say that the food is the best I've had in Alicante, and is offered at market prices. I have eaten here many times and it seems that the creativity of these guys never ends. There is always a new and interesting dish or snack to try. I sincerely congratulate the owners of this place.
This is a replica of an eighteenth century Spanish galleon, permanently docked at the port in Malaga. It can be towed to any port of Spain. Area: 2400 m2. It has three decks with completely different environments: You can eat in the Trinidad restaurant (Mediterranean cuisine), dance in the Trafalgar Room, have a drink in Sala Gravina, or a snack in Sala Churruca. The perfect place to take a stroll around the deck, have something to eat or just a drink.
This is one of the most classic restaurants in the city of Dénia and perhaps in the entire province. It’s located in a privileged area in the outskirts of the city with incomparable natural surroundings. This traditional restaurant is the perfect place to celebrate a special occasion or try the best of the best of traditional local dishes.
We left absolutely stuffed, to tell the truth. We went as part of a large group and we had a massive spread on the table. The plates, though, were delicious. We started with tapas and some unbeatable red shrimp from the region (you’ve never tried shrimp quite like it) and we went on to paella and fideuá. A mix, basically, to get to try a little of everything. And we didn’t regret it. It’s a totally recommendable place if you’re in the area.
A family restaurant, cozy and very well-kept. In Urbanova, near the airport of Alicante. You can find traditional Mediterranean cuisine there. Our wine list is extensive and highly recommended to its customers.
To make a comparison, you could say that Paco Torreblanca is to desserts what Ferrán Adria is to high-cuisine. His desserts and pastries are famous throughout the world. It’s a wonderland for sugar-fiends!
The pastry shop has a minimalist touch in its design and you know from the second you enter the door that this is no normal place. The service staff was very friendly. In Torreblanca, they put a lot of effort into the presentation and packaging, something I love. The boxes read “Torreblanca Haute Couture.” But, the most important thing, of course, are the pies, cakes, sweets, and chocolates you’ll find in the store.
It’s finger-licking good. As far as the price goes, I’ll say that it wasn’t as high as I expected for the level of quality. Six tartlets cost me 18euros. If I were you, I wouldn’t hesitate to go to Torreblanca when you’re in Alicante.
The Confectionery tunnel is something like the Rolls Royce of cafes in the province of Alicante. It is on Calle Sant Llorenç 34 in Alcoy, in the heart of the city and its facade is a blast. Whenever I have a celebration I go and buy some Tunnel cupcakes, they are delicious, handmade and very varied. They also have all kinds of cakes, from the most traditional to the most imaginative. Apparently I'm not the only one who likes to go here as on many weekends the queue comes out of the store.
The best rice I've ever eaten in my life! Enjoying a good meal on the beach in the middle of October is a real luxury, and food like this makes it even better. Playa Azul is a restaurant with forty years of history, with great service, a great location, and delicious food. Everything we ate here was delicious, and the waiter - I can't remember if he was Jose Luis or Jose Antonio - was wonderful, always smiling.
La Mejillonera is one of the typical local joints in Benidorm and it’s easy to find because it’s in the center. If you go shopping or to the beach, you will bump into it.
You can try different dishes on the terrace or inside, among which I’d highlight the mussels. I must say that I usually don’t like Tiger mussels (mussels gratin with béchamel) and that didn’t change here, but the mussels in vinaigrette were simply divine.
The service is nice, fast and helpful and the price is about the average for similar places in Benidorm.
In a place as obsessed with turrón (nougat) as Alicante, it’s difficult to find a turrón vendor that really stands out. This kiosk still maintains the original family-recipe and process of making turrón from 100 years ago.
Today, there isn’t anyone in Alicante that hasn’t tried their turrón. The kiosk is also right next to the central market, a fact which only adds to its popularity. They also sell dessert wines that they make themselves using the finest natural ingredients.
Turrón is the most popular product among tourists on a visit to Alicante. It’s understandable because the almonds they use are really first-rate. So, if you’re in the market for turrón, this is the best place to go.
Five generations and over 100 years of experience inform the menus at this restaurant situated in downtown Villena. The restaurant is located in an old inn which is stunning and completely renovated. The restaurant has a careful selection of regional plates including rice, meat, and fish, with a local-focus and a touch of haute-cuisine.
The chef is Hugo Hernández and he’s in charge to updating classic plates and following the family tradition.
I love coming to this restaurant for dinner, both for its local service and lovely food (pizzas, pasta, wings, meat, salads, etc.) Nothing is wasted, everything is delicious. There is a tasting menu for several people so you just have to go hungry to try everything.
On Calle Loreto in Denia you can find the perfect place to go to dinner with friends; one of these several restaurants is Ca La Pepa Teresa. It is an old house tastefully restored and with a simple menu of typical local tapas, all of which are delicious. Staff are very professional and prompt. 100% recommended.
