The Gijón Aquarium opened in 2006 and is a very modern medium-sized aquarium with striking seaside architecture. It has over 60 freshwater and saltwater aquariums, an auditorium for events, education rooms, and an area of recovery for marine mammals and reptiles. There are about 250 species of animals including fish, invertebrates, mammals, reptiles, amphibians and birds. The sharks are the highlight and they are directly fed daily by two divers. There are organized activities for children to sleep in the aquarium surrounded by marine species. The aquarium is divided into twelve thematic areas: 1.-Asturian rivers. 2.-Cantabrian Zone. 3.-Cantabrian Coast. 4.-Atlantic. 5.-Caribbean Islands. 6.-Cape Horn. 7.-Pacific-Indian. 8.-Red Sea. 9.-Madagascar. 10.-Cape of Good Hope. 11.-subtropical Atlantic. 12.-Puerto Spaniard. It takes about two hours for a complete visit. Otters, though very shy, are one of the most popular aquarium animals, and when they play in the water, they are a great entertainment for children.
In this zoo, the barriers between the animals and the visitors are minimal. There are 320,000 square meters divided into Pangea, America, Asia, and Europe. You can see the bird of prey fly and the big fish swim and enjoy shows like the elephant feeding as well as learn how to take care of the animals. On the weekends, you can try the ripcord which drops you down at 50 km/hour around the elephant grassland. You can hear the screams of excitement throughout the park.
There’s also the “Agua Natura”, a water park with a wave pool, slides, kiddy pool, and a solarium and spa. It’s a fantastic place for the weekend!
50 km from Roquetas del Mar is the western theme park of the chain Playa Senator . It is an option if you are staying in this chain because if you have full board you can eat a buffet in the park at your hotel . The entrance is 19 euros per person and kids are free if you are staying there, but the entrance is 10 euros if you eat buffet , and if you are not staying there it costs 17 euros per person. You must wear swimwear because inside there are 2 pools to cool off and then you can go to a zoo in the park, which is included in the tour . Also included is a ride on a small train. To make it more enjoyable I recommend the shows. The can-can dancing is very fun and the music in the background is good.
The truth is that being really close to where we live, we got away for the day to the park so that our daughter could enjoy playing between the animals. It was super fun! We went in 2006 when she was only 5 years and she was quite an animal lover! The park is great to take little ones to and discover things about the animal world. The sight of the birds is phenomenal.
This is one of the branches that Dinópolis has in the province of Teruel. It’s not very big, but still quite interesting, because the entire visit is a guided tour and very well explained, both for children and for adults. During the tour we can see a lot of fossils from the ancient sea which previously covered the zone, and understand how they were formed and preserved.
A family excursion in a wildlife park. Beautiful views and wild animals.
It’s in the Tena Valley in Huesca, a lovely area with a lot of things to do. Perfect for mountain sports, and of course, skiing in winter.
Others can also enjoy but the explanations are only in Spanish. Very profesional bird expectacles one in the morning and one after lunch.
Food is reasonable for price. Children were amazed by seing, touching and holding the birds and the price is very reasonable for a whole day fun with additional educative knowledge about nature!
If you want to enjoy a day of active tourism, Acropark is just the place for you. They have three courses: infant, junior, and senior, for ages three and up. The prime object is the cross the precious pine forest, but from up hight, across hanging bridges, and other obstacles. The senior course is about 50 minutes in duration and has a 7 meter high zip line. It´s a little scary but it´s incredibly fun!
The monitors explain the rules and how to use the equipment. They help you out along the way and are great.
If you go once, you´ll surely want to go back!
They try to sell all the extra activities and don't explain that a few km from there by car there is a wonderful natural site of Dinosours steps with real size copies and a whole car tour with dinosaurs' explanations at an amazing natural background. The servís was very impolite and aggressive. Food was bad for price.
