Squares in Leiria
Rodrigues Lobo Square and the Castle
(8)
The Rodrigues Lobo Square can be found in [poi = 10787] Leiria [/ poi], in central Portugal. This square is right in the heart of the city, which is always lively. It's a beautiful place where you can contemplate the the castle's imposing figure, which is a symbol of the town. This square is surrounded by restaurants and bars. Under its arches there are plenty of terraces where you can sit, both day and night, for a coffee or whatever you feel like at that time. It's definitely a luxury that's not to be missed. At night the castle is lit so that from any point of the city to forget their presence and the view offered from the Plaza is beautiful. Don't miss this beautiful little hideaway.

Pedrogao

Pedrogao is a village on the coast of Portugal that doubles or triples its inhabitants in summer thanks to its wonderful beach. It is perhaps one of the main tourist areas in the sense that it has many typical mças summer buildings. It is really easy to see architectural structures that break the traditional Portugese model, although they conserve the height as all the pretty buildings are no more than 3 floors. The highlight of this place is definitely its formidable beach. It is a long, sandy and full of dunes that give it a wild look. The dunes run along the town's main road and there's a wooden fence so that the sand doesn't block the road when it's windy. It is truly wonderful to walk on this beach - it is so long you can almost get to the next town. It is very open and very exposed to the wind. Also, be careful when bathing because there are often strong currents and the Atlantic Ocean is very rough. Besides the beach you can visit some monuments such as; the chapel of the Holy Spirit - stone and with great charm, the chapel of Our Lady of Grace - also stone, but a few shades lighter and is a well-liked and respected by the locals, the chapel of San Antonio - with a bell tower, and the chapel of Our Lady of the Flowers - the smallest and simplest, but it is beautiful, painted white and has a small cross on top of the roof.

This site is at the top of the cliff that protects Nazere and you can get up there in two ways, either walking along a road with a considerable slope with spectacular views, or a funicular train from Nazare. This funicular is very cheap and rises 110 meters in altitude. It's undoubtedly the most impressive site with incredible views over the town of Nazere and the Atlantic Ocean. It's stunning, especially at sunset or sunrise and there are several bars at the top from which you can watch the scenery while enjoying a beer or a soft drink. There's also the Church of Nossa Senhora de Nazaré. It's a 17th century building with two bell towers and 18th century Baroque tiles inside. Another building, is the Chapel da Memoria, which is the most beautiful building. The legend has it that in 1182, the Virgin saved an important lord at the time and his horse from falling off the cliff while following a deer in fog. There are also white houses with blue doors and windows and the streets are very narrow. Mind you, the most noticeable of Nazere tourism is the main square filled with typical clothing and candy stalls, and everyone who visits it, comes to admire the views.
