The ice hotel in Kirkenes, is not just a hotel, it is also a restaurant where you can taste typical Norwegian and Sami food around the fire. There are activities for everyone, like walks in search of the northern lights, dog sledding, snowmobiling, king crab fishing, ice fishing, snowshoeing, etc.. Disconnect from the busy world and try different activities in a magical ambiance. The hotel has several rooms, each decorated with a different theme and made entirely of ice and snow. Every winter they re-build it, until spring comes and it melts. The best time to vist, in my opinion, is in January-February. Before then the days are dark, there aren't many hours of light and doesn't allow for many activities. It is alos very cold, but that creates a beautiful landscape that can only be seen at this time of year.
I arrived a few days ago of Nordkapp. Everyone says it's the trip of your life and it's true. I went in caravan from Pamplona on August 6 and arrived on the 12th to Nordkapp. The midnight sun was over, but still not done at night and at 1:30 in the early morning the light was beautiful. It makes my hair stand on end, when we parked and went to the platform where the goal was to take a photo .... That wonderful feeling, we were at the end of the world, so far north that there's only snow. I'm sure I will return.
This is a great site that was built by just one person. He was an artist named Sven Elghon, and he built it with his hands. He placed creativity on every cabinet, shelf or piece of the cabins, all with wood and tools areas. You also have the opportunity to make several experiences with huskies and visit important cultural sites in Sami. Be sure to wear mosquito repellent, or you will regret it.
The Thon Hotel Hammerfest is located in the heart of the city of Hammerfest. Once here, you can take advantage of its central location, allowing quick access to the main attractions and historical places in the city. Inside the hotel there is a nice Italian restaurant, as well as two typical pubs and a bar.
The Thon Hotel Kautokeino (Kautokeino - Finnmark - Norway) offers guests a central location, situated within walking distance of the city center of Kautokeino. The Ellakselv Hotel (Lakselv, Finnmark, Norway) is nestled within a rural setting, about 1 mile from the centre of Lakselv, within Porsangerfjord. It's an excellent base for excursions to the Northern Cape. It offers 44 rooms all equipped with shower/WC, radio and cable television. There is also a restaurant, bar, conference room and sauna.
In Alta there are several hotels I choose the Rica. It is on the expensive side but it has a good breakfast buffet. It costs like 200 crowns more than other hotels in the area. The woman who run the place is super friendly and helpful. We arrived at about 11pm and we had nothing to eat, so she instructed us where we could go buy a pizza and that we could cook it in her oven, this was very thoughtful on her part. I would recommend this site, it is only 10 minutes or less walk from the center of Alta, and being outside of the city you can see the aurora borealis better.
This hostel is a member of Hostelling International hostels. If you're a member of this chain you get a discount, but the woman who greeted us was lovely and despite not having made us discount card she gave it to us anyway. The hostel is very clean and there is no problem of showers or sinks. The rooms are large and the number of beds in each of them is varying from 2-6. In the hostel there is kitchen and not have to worry about the sheets and blankets that look very clean and like the first day.
